Theres been many debates regarding the rights of women driving particularly in Saudi Arabia. Is there anything in Islam where there is a law against women driving..or is this just a way of creating a more patriarchal society in an increasingly matriarchal world? Perhaps the answer lies in Arabia herself, the government.
As you may know Arabia is run by a monarchy, King Abdullah the succesor to Fahd, however, behind the king is a network of "Islamic" scholars that help govern the kingdom according to what they interpret to be shariah law.
Has the house of Saud gone too far in outlawing women to drive, or is this a part of Islam?

Motivated by your entry, I wrote an entry on this in me blog. To sum up what I wrote: Nope, it ain't a part of Islam.
Heres a link to DC's entry on her own islamic blog { Click }
Oh yeah i forgot to add my own opinion to the post! I think that islamically there is no real basis for such a decision by Sheikh Bin Baz to ban women from driving.
Having read the article above in DC's blog, i agree with the points that women were permitted to ride horses and such things on their own!
However, ive been in some paltalk rooms as of late and spoken to an arab brother and sister, that say that nowadays this law isnt applicable and that women are often seen driving etc. infact such is the situation of freedom there, women are abandoning the Hijab and so on which is very worrying considering Arabia is meant to be the most influential muslim nation.
