Theres been many debates regarding the rights of women driving particularly in Saudi Arabia. Is there anything in Islam where there is a law against women driving..or is this just a way of creating a more patriarchal society in an increasingly matriarchal world? Perhaps the answer lies in Arabia herself, the government.
As you may know Arabia is run by a monarchy, King Abdullah the succesor to Fahd, however, behind the king is a network of "Islamic" scholars that help govern the kingdom according to what they interpret to be shariah law.
Has the house of Saud gone too far in outlawing women to drive, or is this a part of Islam?
